TIROTIRO TOOL - MĀRAMATAKA TRAINING

Developed through ongoing projects alongside Weed Action Native Habitat Restoration Trust, Aki Tai Here is now able to share the ‘Tirotiro Tool’, an mobile application for making observations over time in the pursuit of understanding indicators of change in Te Ao Tūroa over time.

PILOT PROJECT 2023/24

building a local mātauranga informed collaboration for native habitat restoration across the Whangārei Heads

TIROTIRO KI TE WAI

Our team continue to learn how to best support haukāinga and wetlands through this project, thanks to Te Wai Maori Trust Wai Ora Funding and Northland Regional Council Tangata Whenua Environmental Monitoring Fund over 2024/25.

This included haukāinga inviting our team to mahi alongside them in their taiao goals, and supporting more training to better understand rāhui and other restrictions which support freshwater habitats to thrive.

PĀTAUA ISLAND PREDATOR CONTROL

With the support of Predator Free Whangārei, predator control across Pātaua Island will be continued. 

Over April + May, Aki Tai Here kaimahi will be visiting homes near monitoring stations in for permissions korero. Whānau can also email us for resources to manage their own traps and bait stations.

This project is only possible through Pātaua Island Whānau support.

Manaia Maunga - Threatened Species

This project is resourced via  Department of Conservation Threatened Species  Funding received by  Weed Action Native Habitat Restoration  Trust to protect and preserve Nationally Critical plant species including Northland Horopito and Ramarama through habitat restoration on Manaia Ridge Scenic Reserve.

This project also is being run in parallel with a DOC led conversation with the hapū of Whangārei Heads on the future of the Northland Horopito, and we seek ongoing direction from these hui on how this project progresses, alongside Weed Action Native Habitat Restoration Trust.
